Job Description:
The AVP Credit, Financial Sponsors, C.N.A., leads a team of Directors of Credit Execution, Associate Directors, and Associates. The role contributes to the growth of the portfolio by assessing and recommending credit structures to meet the needs of customers and conform to TD's policies and Risk Appetite. This role is located in Toronto and reports directly to the Vice President, Credit Management, Commercial National Accounts.
Within CNA, the Financial Sponsors Group is a specialized team focused on covering private equity firms and providing financing to support their portfolio companies. The team works closely with the TD Securities team in the firm's overall coverage activities.

Job Description:

Within CNA, the Financial Sponsors Group is a specialized team focused on covering private equity firms and providing financing to support their portfolio companies. The team works closely with the TD Securities team in the firm's overall coverage activities.
Key accountabilities of this role are:
- Oversee and manage credit underwriting and execution for a team across various industries and operating companies predominantly owned by private equity investors.
- In collaboration with other Financial Sponsors Group team members, lead structuring and negotiation of financing proposals including security, covenants and pricing to properly reflect and compensate TD for the assessed risk.
- Oversee and recommend credit to the Vice President, CNA & or CCRM, ensuring a high quality of risk assessment, credit structure, due diligence, and credit presentation.
- Ensure the overall portfolio is comprehensively monitored and controlled, adhering to and administered within approved guidelines, and in line with Bank operating policies and procedures.
- Interpret and apply TD's risk management strategy within the team.
- Implement and operate systems to identify and mitigate operational risk issues.
- Ensure staff understand and comply with Bank and Industry Codes of Conduct.
- Strong attention to people management, ensuring there is robust mentoring and coaching within the team, and an ongoing focus on learning and development.
- Contribute to projects and initiatives within the team and CNA more broadly which seek to increase efficiencies, improve employee experience, and ensure our policies and procedures are up to date and relevant.
- Work closely with the VP Unit leader to ensure the broader success of the Unit.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and contributes to a work environment that facilitates job satisfaction, personal development, and opportunities for advancement.
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Business Banking and Commercial Credit is required
- Extensive knowledge of leveraged finance (i.e., capital structures, capital markets, public and private debt and equity markets). Extensive knowledge of specialized leveraged finance products (i.e., structured/acquisition financings, project financings, private credit, loan syndication) and other core TD products and services.
- Extensive knowledge of business, legal, tax, banking and regulatory framework affecting financial requirements of customers.
- Experience structuring complex transactions that meet the needs of complex and high value clients that are within TD's risk tolerances.
- Strong people leader with demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams.
- History of making an impact, developing and executing on strategies and delivering superior results in both the short and long term.
- Demonstrated relationship building skills, with a superior ability to make things happen through the use of positive influence.
- Strong financial management skills
- Expertise in Commercial Credit, Risk Management and/or developing relationships in a market.
- Powerful communicator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees.
- Robust organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Prior experience in the Sponsor vertical is a benefit.
Education/Accreditation's:
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in Business. Other financial designations considered an asset (i.e. CPA, CBV, CFA etc.).
