Department Overview
TD Wealth Governance & Control team partners with the Wealth businesses to design, implement, maintain, and monitor effective internal controls and ensure business activities remain within TD Bank's risk appetite and comply with external regulatory requirements.
The team is responsible for ensuring timely and consistent implementation - across all Wealth Canada businesses - of all risk, control and governance programs, initiatives, policies and strategic business projects. The Wealth Governance & Control team acts as the primary contact for the Wealth Canada businesses, working closely with subject matter experts from each Wealth Canada business line. The team works together with the business leaders to implement applicable methodologies, policy frameworks, standards and practices and are key members of enterprise projects / programs requiring Wealth representation.

Reporting to the VP, Governance & Control, this position will be primarily responsible for supporting all TD Wealth Canada businesses in adherence to TD enterprise and regulatory requirements, managing risk and having effective operational controls in place. The position is expected to support and work with other TD Wealth teams and risk partners to help ensure the Wealth Canada segment has adequately considered, managed, and mitigated the risks in day-to-day activities, operations, products, and services, and is operating within risk appetite.

As part of the key accountabilities of the role, the AVP will lead a team and be accountable for:
- Thought leadership on risks, controls, testing and issues.
- Maintaining the documentation and assessment of key controls, including the Wealth regulatory control mapping, process, risk and control self-assessments, and the coverage map of first- and second-line monitoring and testing programs
- Ingestion of the regulatory mapping data into the Enterprise book of record/ tool
- Executing testing of the design and operating effectiveness of key controls, including identification of control enhancements / automation
- Conducting field review for certain Wealth business lines
- Maintaining processes to identify and track issues to remediation and manage the workflow in Enterprise tool
- Leading the Wealth Issues Management Committee
- Supporting executive reporting, including meaningful data insights, on controls, testing, and issues
- Providing guidance and support in the design, implementation, and sustainment of controls within key processes and procedures
- People management processes, including hiring and termination, team objective setting, training, and ongoing performance feedback processes; ensures team adheres to enterprise frameworks and methodologies and meets objectives
- Supporting other G&C leaders to help ensure businesses remain compliant with regulatory, risk management and control expectations
- Effectively managing ad-hoc governance, risk management and control projects or tasks of varying complexities within established deadlines
- Establishing strong relationships and maintaining an efficient interaction model with business and control partners (Compliance, Risk, AML, and Internal Audit)
- Fostering an environment and culture that encourages productivity, innovation, process improvement, teamwork, and a high level of professionalism
Job Requirements
- Strategic and thought leadership with the ability to lead organizational and process changes; and synthesize trends and key insights
- Demonstrated inclusive leadership and proven ability to communicate with and influence different levels of management, including dealing with conflict
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Effective time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills to meet tight timeframes as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to strike the appropriate balance between compliance/regulatory risk obligations, business results and opportunities, the client and employee experience, and expense management
- Professional accounting/auditing/risk management designation would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of wealth management businesses, and regulatory compliance landscape preferred.
