On behalf of our client, Northern Blacktop we are searching for a Bookkeeper/Office Manager to join their team. Northern Blacktop is a locally owned and operated road construction company that has 35 years of experience servicing the entire province of Saskatchewan.    

 

Reporting to the ownership group, the Bookkeeper/Office Manager will be an integral part of the team and provide accounting and office support to the group. The ideal candidate will thrive in a small office, enjoys the variety and autonomy where no job is too big or too small.  This role will appeal to an empathetic and caring individual who will support and go the extra mile for field employees with payroll, benefits and administrative issues.  

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the day to day accounting functions
  • Data Entry of Invoices
  • Bank Reconciliation and remittances, GST, PST, WCB
  • Managing contracts and monthly progress billings
  • Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions
  • Maintain vendors’ monthly statements
  • Ensure transactions are accurately recorded and entered into Sage 50
  • Processes accounts receivable and accounts payable allocation and payment
  • Work closely with vendors for payments and documentation
  • Manages payroll process and benefits administration
  • Conduct clerical duties, including filing, answering phone calls, responding to emails and preparing documents
  • Works closely with the team to provide support with transactions in an efficient, learning and caring process
  • Develops & documents business process and accounting policies to strengthen internal control and manage risk
  • Order and maintain office supplies

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a Bookkeeper or similar role
  • Possess an Accounting Certificate/Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Highly detailed and well organized
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and customers to maximize performance, problem solving and results
  • Must have excellent follow up and tracking skills
  • Skilled in Sage 50 considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft products, primarily excel
  • Enjoys a busy and fast paced entrepreneurial environment, and knows how to add value to the organization
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Must be reliable and possess the ability to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
