Overview

We are looking for Collection Officers to be responsible for the collection of outstanding employers' accounts of a high dollar value and complexity level.

In this role, you'll be contacting and communicating with employers, their representatives and other information sources to collect outstanding debt and arrange and maintain payment schedules.

This is a temporary role for 18 months.

How you'll make a difference: You'll help ensure employers are fairly contributing to B.C.'s workers' compensation system so we can serve workers and employers now and in the future.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

What you'll do
  • Provide customer service regarding collection issues such as collection of outstanding debt, short payments, and reviewing and processing account adjustments
  • Obtain and analyze financial information to determine an employer's ability to pay.
  • Identify and provide recommendation on collection matters such as applying WorkSafeBC's enforcement tools and taking legal action on outstanding debt
  • Answer correspondence, prepare reports and maintain records and files related to collection work
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.

We're looking for someone who can:
  • Clearly, concisely, and accurately explain and document information, both verbally and in writing, using tact, discretion and persuasiveness
  • Be professional and assertive with clients while working under pressure and time constraints
  • Establish ongoing working relationships with a variety of individuals and organizations
  • Investigate, analyze, and take independent action to get results and make decisions in a timely manner in accordance with complex policies, practices, and procedures

Your background and experience
  • Completion of grade 12 and post-secondary education is an asset
  • A minimum of 1 year of recent directly related collections experience preferably in a federal or provincially legislated environment
  • Working knowledge of collection procedures and practices
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial statutes related to collections
  • Demonstrated ability to apply law, policies, and procedures relevant to collections

We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Our benefits

As a member of our team, you'll have access to services and benefits that help you get the most out of work - and life. Along with a competitive salary, your total compensation package includes:
  • Extra 4% of your salary in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation from the day you start

Once you've worked for 1820 hours (approximately 12 months), you'll switch to getting:
  • 3 weeks of vacation with regular increases based on years of service
  • Extensive health care and dental benefits
  • Sick leave and long-term disability coverage

Salary: $38.49/hourly
