Job Description

A data administrator, also known as a database administrator (DBA), is responsible for the management of data resources in an organization:

Database management: Planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining databases
Data security: Implementing security measures to protect data
Data performance: Ensuring the performance of the database and writing performance reports
Data availability: Making sure data is available to authorized users
Data integrity: Ensuring the integrity of the database and that data remains consistent
User support: Training and supporting users
Legal compliance: Complying with legal requirements
Data storage and recovery: Storing and recovering information
Data export: Exporting data

Data administrators can work in information technology consulting firms or in information technology units in the private and public sectors. Most entry-level positions require a bachelor's degree in information science or computer science. Larger organizations may require a master's degree in information technology or database administration.
