Overview

A McDonald's Shift Manager is responsible for providing leadership to crew and other managers during a shift to ensure Guest demand is captured and great QSC is delivered to our Guests.

Shift Managers plan for each shift, run informative energetic shift huddles, energize the team throughout the shift, monitor performance during the shift, take action to meet the guest demand while ensuring that the team is meeting McDonald's standards, monitor safety, security, and profitability and communicate with the next Shift Manager to help prepare him/her to run a great shift, too. Shift Managers are also responsible for meeting targets during their shifts and for helping their assigned Departments meet their goals.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

PRODUCTION

* \tMonitor and coach to correct production procedures

* \tMonitor cabinet levels

* \tMonitor UHC for correct holding times

* \tMonitor finished food quality

SERVICE

* \tMonitor and coach to correct service and Guest Experience behaviour procedures

* \tSeek guest feedback during travel paths

* \tDocument guest complaints and action taken in log book

* \tFollow guest recovery process when necessary

SHIFT MANAGEMENT

* \tReview guest count and sales projections

* \tComplete pre-shift checklist

* \tComplete positioning plan (VSPT)

* \tAgree on shift targets during pre-shift with area managers; follow up on execution of the plan

* \tConduct shift huddles daily and prior to each peak

* \tConduct shift huddles post-peak periods

* \tManage from the observation post

* \tIdentify danger zones, diagnose and provide direction and coaching

* \tConduct QSC travel path every half hour, or every 15 minutes during peaks

* \tConnect with guests along their travel paths

* \tMaintain/adjust positioning according to positioning guide

* \tFollow up on primary and secondary duties of crew and managers

* \tConduct post-shift analysis

FOOD SAFETY

* \tComplete and verify daily food safety checklist

* \tMonitor food safety procedures during the shift

INTERNAL COMMUNICATION

* \tRead messages from the back office and /or manager's communication log

* \tCommunicate with manager on shift and identify sales trends/opportunities

* \tCommunicate shift targets and goals to all team members

* \tMonitor and communicate progress toward targets throughout the shift and energize the team to meet them

* \tCommunicate results and opportunities to the next manager

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

* \tMaintain stock levels for 24/2; receive products by checking order accuracy, quality, and condition

* \tTrack raw and completed waste on each shift

PEOPLE PRACTICES

* \tEnsure crew appearance standards are met

* \tCoordinate breaks for team

* \tEnforce all applicable labour and employment laws and McDonald's policies

* \tRecognize and reward crew

PLANNED & DAILY MAINTENANCE / CLEANLINESS

* \tIdentify and respond to equipment and physical plant failure/ unplanned activities

* \tVerify completion/follow-up on cleaning tasks

* \tVerify completion/follow-up on Planned Maintenance tasks

* \tFollow-up on restaurant maintenance checklist

SAFETY AND SECURITY

* \tEnsure cash controls are in place for shift (safe contents, skims, deposits, cash +/-)

* \tCheck security equipment for proper operation

* \tMaintain safety and security during the shift

* \tEnsure correct cash handling procedures are being followed

* \tEnforce all applicable laws and policies

* \tResponsible for daily management of the safe

SCHEDULING (CREW)

* \tReview crew schedule for proper staffing to meet demand

* \tEnsure labour controls are in place each hour and each shift

* \tProvides scheduling manager feedback on scheduling efficiency

TRAINING (CREW)

* \tComplete follow-up SOCs and training

* \tReview training needs for crew working the shift

* \tMonitor execution of shift training

* \tMonitor execution of guest experience behaviours and review with guest experience manager
