We are seeking a seasoned Integration Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and support of integration solutions between internal systems and third-party vendor platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise, independent ownership of technology assets, and the ability to guide others on the team. About the Role
We are seeking a seasoned Integration Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and support of integration solutions between internal systems and third-party vendor platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise, independent ownership of technology assets, and the ability to guide others on the team. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of strategic insight, hands-on experience, and strong communication skills to support the ongoing evolution of our technology landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of integration solutions, including planning, design, development oversight, testing coordination, and production support.
- Own and manage a portfolio of technology assets, ensuring their reliability, scalability, and alignment with architectural and enterprise standards.
- Act as the primary liaison with vendor technical teams, internal application owners, and business stakeholders to define technical requirements and support production incidents.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and recommend modernization opportunities for existing solutions.
- Ensure proper documentation, knowledge transfer, and adherence to ITIL-aligned change management and incident handling processes.
- Support post-implementation reviews, SLA monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the team's on-call support schedule as an escalation contact.
- This role has the potential to evolve into one with people management responsibilities, including oversight of a small team of engineers, depending on team growth and organizational needs.
Core Technical Skills (Required):
Integration:
- Deep understanding of system-to-system integration patterns, including RESTful APIs, SOAP services, MQ-based messaging, SFTP file exchanges, and event-driven architecture.
Enterprise Architecture Awareness:
- Exposure to scalable, modular, and secure design principles that support enterprise-wide standards.
Vendor Integration and Governance:
- Experience managing vendor deliverables, technical SLAs, and translation of business requirements into technical contracts.
Technical Troubleshooting:
- Strong diagnostic skills for reviewing application logs, database logs, network traces, and system outputs to resolve integration issues.
- Experience with timeout management, retries, error handling frameworks, and resiliency patterns.
System Resiliency and Performance:
- Understanding of high-availability and disaster recovery principles, performance tuning for integrations, and latency optimization.
Process and Change Management:
- Familiarity with ITIL-aligned operational processes including change, incident, and problem management.
Networking and Connectivity:
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, NAT, and routing concepts.
- Familiarity with VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN) used for secure vendor or external system connectivity.
- Knowledge of load balancer configurations, including health checks, SSL termination, and session persistence.
- Aware of Web Application Firewall (WAF) principles and integration security best practices.
Middleware and API Management:
- Experience with API gateways, message brokers, or enterprise service bus (ESB) platforms.
- Familiarity with API management practices such as traffic control, rate limiting, authentication policies, and logging strategies.
Tool Proficiency:
- Strong working knowledge of Jira for managing tasks, tracking integration project deliverables, and coordinating operational support.
Additional Technical Skills (Beneficial)
Tools/Platforms:
- Strong proficiency with Postman (or similar) for API testing and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect) and secure system connectivity (SSL/TLS, certificates, firewall rules).
Data Handling:
- Proficiency with structured data formats like Json, XML, and CSV, including schema validation and transformations.
Development and Scripting:
- Comfort with basic scripting (eg: Powershell, Python, Bash) for automation or testing is an asset.
- Ability to maintain integration specifications, automation, and operational support materials aligned to enterprise governance standards.
Database and Data Management:
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts (eg: tables, views, indexes, stored procedures).
- Ability to write and troubleshoot basic to intermediate SQL queries for data extraction, validation, and issue diagnosis.
- Familiarity with common relational database platforms (eg: Microsoft SQL, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
Cloud:
- Understanding of cloud platforms (eg: Azure, AWS, GCP) and related integration services
Qualifications & Skills:
- 8+ years of experience in enterprise integration, application support, or infrastructure delivery.
- Proven track record of independently managing integration assets and delivering solutions within complex technology environments.
- Prior exposure to banking, financial services, or regulated industries.
