WSP is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Marine Biologist to join our BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team on a full-time basis. Location can be flexible across British Columbia. Our team of marine biologists work in Canada and internationally on environmental impact assessments; policy and program development. The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to work on interesting and diverse projects across BC, with a wide range of complexity.

A day in the life...
  • Providing leadership in health and safety;
  • Contributing to study design for marine and aquatic investigative programs;
  • Developing proposals, work plans, and budgets for marine and aquatic based field programs and desktop studies;
  • Producing high quality technical reports;
  • Managing projects to ensure deliverables meet client expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality;
  • Application of biological survey methods, advanced data analysis including statistics, and preparation of technical reports based on current scientific knowledge, baseline data collection, and peer reviewed literature;
  • Preparing permits / regulatory approval applications and representing Golder at technical, regulatory agency and client meetings;
  • Contributing to the coordinated development of business opportunities in the field of marine and aquatic sciences with a focus on marine ecology, fisheries and/or marine mammal sciences;
  • Working across multiple regions and disciplines for the collaborative effort to achieve project goals and objectives;
  • Maintaining a strong rapport with applicable regulatory agencies, technical organizations and relevant subcontractors;
  • Providing mentoring and training to existing junior and intermediate staff.

What you'll bring to WSP...
  • Minimum Master's degree (preferred) or BSc in marine ecology, marine biology, zoology, or equivalent;
  • Five or more years of relevant work experience in a professional consulting context?
  • Experience leading teams and providing mentorship and training to junior staff for successful project delivery is desired;
  • Experience in project development, project management, proposal writing, budget development and budget management;
  • Specialized skill set in marine mammal sciences, fisheries biology, and/or marine ecology;
  • Demonstrated experience in study/survey design specific to marine field studies, environmental monitoring programs, abundance surveys, biological inventories and habitat offsetting/compensation programs;
  • Proven skills in technical writing, statistical analysis and interpreting technical documents;
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation as related to coastal development projects and potential impacts on fish and fish habitat, migratory birds, water quality and shipping;
  • Demonstrated experience preparing regulatory permit applications and authorizations;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the environmental assessment process in at least one Canadian jurisdiction and industry-standard EIA methodology used to assess project-related effects on valued marine ecosystem components;
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate tasks to junior and/or intermediate biologists and provide guidance and oversight for the task;
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with clients, senior management, fellow team members, regulatory agencies, local stakeholders, First Nations groups, and the public;
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety;
  • Eligibility to register as a Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.) in the Province of British Columbia.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $84,200 - $100,123
