Overview: BCLC's two offices are located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples in Vancouver and the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc territory, situated within the Secwépemc Nation in Kamloops. Job Summary: The Senior Specialist, Research and Insights supports and guides the development and execution of insight generation across the organization through primary market research and business intelligence and reporting solutions. The role manages the consolidation of strategic, market and customer performance metrics insights to assist with organizational-wide strategic decision-making. This role is instrumental in developing the Research and Insights team function within the organization through strong client management and relevant research and analytics insight delivery. The Senior Specialist acts as a consultative partner and builds relationships with all business units in the area of consumer insight and market intelligence.
Key Accountabilities: - Consults with and influences business stakeholders, understands their needs, clearly communicates this direction to internal team members, and makes presentations of complex concepts to an executive audience as required.
- Provide business planning support on initiatives, budget and process management between the department and analytics teams.
- Acts as an expert advisor in the development and execution of primary research and provides analysis of market and economic indicators, assessing their potential impact and supporting the organization's ability to address competitive challenges, opportunities and risks.
- Develops proactive, relevant and actionable insights across the organization using market research and analytics.
- Coaches and mentors the team to proactively identify clients' needs and provide advice and creative solutions to support corporate and departmental objectives.
- Proactively develops strong relationships with clients, in particular those responsible for financial and business planning, business performance management, marketing and operations. Facilitates client discovery meetings to understand information needs.
- Plays a key role in fostering strong working relationship with other Insights & Experience team members to leverage BI data with Research information to generate insights.
- Provides recommendations on business planning/prioritization, annual budget, departmental process and policies, including procurement; identifies gaps and provides creative solutions to enhance departmental processes.
- Supports the Manager with the development of strategies and plans for supporting the achievement of business objectives while working closely with stakeholders.
- Supports enterprise strategic initiatives related to increasing customer understanding at BCLC.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience - A degree or diploma in a relevant discipline (business, economics, marketing, statistics, research, etc.);
- Certified Analytics and Insights Professionals (CAIP) or course work completed from the Market Research Intelligence Association (MRIA) is an asset;
- 4 to 6 years progressively responsible experience in market or customer research;
- Prior experience with Customer Insight and Analytical Business Planning is an asset;
- Prior experience working in vendor-side research and/or client-side research an asset;
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Technical Requirements - Proven ability to simplify complex sets of data to create understanding and to work with large amounts of information to tell a concise, engaging story with actionable insights;
- Proven experience in influencing and helping business stakeholders to frame their business problems and BI needs;
- Demonstrated ability to develop technical documentation and explain complex information in an effective manner;
- Proven experience in gathering business requirements needed for successfully developing and supporting business intelligence applications;
- Proven project management and time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities;
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
- Experience managing cross-functional projects and supplier relations;
- Be on the look out for continuous improvement in processes and working relationships;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent understanding of analytical concepts and problem solving skills;
- Experience and/or comfort in analyzing data, using statistical tools and in designing reporting solutions including dashboards, portals, and report objects;
- Demonstrated experience with balanced scorecard/ KPI measurement an asset;
- Understanding of the gaming industry and BCLC's suite of games would be an asset.
