The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated land and natural resource management, including objective setting for land and marine environments, effectively managing cumulative effects, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.

To review proposals for the use of natural resources on Crown Land and determine the impact on First Nations' identified or potential traditional use areas. The First Nations Advisor plans and leads the facilitation of the First Nations consultation process and ensures legal obligations have been met. This position is a recommending authority on whether proposed work should proceed. Additional responsibilities include supporting the team with various functions related to strategic engagement.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree innatural resource management or other relevant discipline.
  • Experience supporting consultation with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience leading consultation processes, and/or negotiations, and/or supporting agreements with First Nations
  • Experience in managing multiple projects and assignments
  • Two years (gained within the last five years) of operational experience in a natural resource field
  • Two years (gained within the last five years) of developing relationships with First Nations communities
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence
• A successful criminal records check is required.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work a few days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and/or permanent vacancies.
