Position Overview

This position is for a Technical Writer to join Microserve’s Proposal Management team and work on proposals in response to RFPs and tenders. This role can be performed anywhere within Western Canada.  Reporting into the Proposal Team Manager the Technical Writer will be ultimately responsible for technical writing, team coordination and end-to-end ownership of the proposal process, from opportunity qualification through to proposal writing, coordination, submission, post-submission presentations and contract award. 

It offers a great opportunity to those with prior technical writing experience, preferably in the IT or engineering industry, looking to apply not just their technical writing skills in delivering timely, high quality proposals, but also to gain additional experience in team leadership and proposal project management.  

The successful candidate has exceptional technical writing skills, a desire for continuous learning and improvement, very high attention to detail, excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, and high standards for quality of work. Occasionally, this role requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate client submission deadlines.


  • Owning the end-to-end proposal process including evaluating RFPs, planning, creating templates, managing the response team, scheduling and facilitating team meetings, writing proposal content, submitting, supporting post-submission presentations, and following up for award decision and feedback.
  • Writing, assembling and editing persuasive proposals and other related documents
  • Writing new, persuasive content from expert interviews, pre-written documents, and other observations
  • Extensive reading to understand company services, services models, technical processes and terminology 
  • Assembling and creating slides for post-submission client presentations
  • Continuously organizing, editing, revising and improving pre-written content libraries
  • Tracking proposal process performance and reporting to senior management


  • 1-3 years of experience as a Technical Writer in IT, engineering or similar high-tech industries
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Exceptional technical writing skills with attention to detail, excellent reading comprehension and ability to communicate key messages in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to understand complex technical concepts from readings, interviews and other observations
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and the desire to continually learn and improve these skills up to expert levels
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the confidence to lead teams with senior experts
  • Willingness and ability to handle the work schedule required by the RFP response process, including multiple-projects, fast pace, changing plans and strict client deadlines.
  • High sense of ownership and urgency, energy and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong interest in working within the IT industry and in the Proposal Management profession
